Home » Witchcraft » Buck Moon 2026 Spiritual Meaning for the July Full Moon

The Buck Moon 2026 shines brightly in the sky long before a buck’s antlers are finished growing. Male deer begin growing new antlers in July, which is where the name originates.

The Buck Moon invites you to invest in yourself, take up space, and grow into your own strength.

In this article, I’ll explain what time it reaches its peak, why it’s called the Buck Moon, its spiritual meaning, and how you can celebrate with rituals and correspondences.

When is the Buck Moon in 2026?

In 2026, July’s Full Moon is called the Buck Moon. It takes place on July 29th and peaks at 10:36 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The Full Moon phase corresponds to the season and time of year. Moon phases have names that come from many beliefs around the world, including Native American, Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Germanic, and more modern Neo-Pagan traditions. Each moon carries its own Moon Magic and spiritual energy.

What is a Buck Moon?

July’s Buck Moon name origins come from the male deer, also called a buck. By late July, a buck’s velvety rack has begun to develop into powerful antlers and is considered a symbol of fertility.

The size and magnitude of a buck’s antlers depend on the season’s rainfall and local soil quality. If there were a drought, it would bring a shortage of nutrition and a poor diet. This hinders the buck’s ability to grow a large rack.

During July and August, the buck’s antlers will start to harden and form tips. The velvet will shed by mid-September, and the buck will be ready for mating season.

Not only are buck antlers growing and thriving right now, but so are we! The mighty buck energy brings spiritual themes of nourishment, taking up space, and growing into your power into this season of abundance.

Use this energy to help fuel your goals and intentions; now is not the time for procrastination. Do your best to avoid distractions. Ask yourself what small goals you can let go of so you can prioritize and focus on accomplishing your bigger priorities.

Buck Moon Spiritual Meaning

The Buck Moon’s spiritual meaning is about becoming the person you’re meant to be. When July’s Buck Moon rises, summer is fully in swing. Fields are full, gardens are producing, and bucks are growing the antlers they’ll rely on later in the year. None of it happens without true nourishment!

July’s full moon encourages you to invest in yourself. Build skills. Strengthen relationships. Care for your body and spirit. Every small choice shapes the person you’re becoming. The habits, relationships, and dreams we feed today become our future foundations.

Over time, those choices become visible. You grow into your power through practice, not perfection. When you work to build your confidence one step at a time, it feels much easier to take up space without feeling intimidated. Healthy boundaries protect what you’ve worked so hard to build.

Remember, a meaningful life isn’t built all at once. It’s built one season at a time.

Thunderstorm Moon Ritual Reflections

July’s Full Moon is also known as the Thunderstorm Moon. Summer thunderstorms always make me feel moody, creative, and thoughtful. Their intense strength always leaves me in awe. It feels as if Nature is reaching out to remind us of its power.

However, a storm can quickly turn into a gentle rain that replenishes the plants and flowers from the scorching hot summer days. Don’t forget to create some Moon Water with your rainwater!

That intense energy always fills me with inspiration! July’s Thunder Moon is a fantastic time to pursue your creative outlets.

Buck Moon Journal Prompts

July’s Full Moon is a wondrous, magical time calling out for you to practice self-reflection. Journaling can really help you connect with yourself, and here are a few prompt ideas to get you started:

If one responsibility disappeared tomorrow, what would you finally have room to grow?

What part of yourself have you been introducing to the world in small, careful pieces instead of all at once? Why?

Every year a buck grows an entirely new rack instead of trying to repair the old one. Are you trying to fix something that needs to be replaced?

The Buck Moon sits near the height of summer. If this season became a chapter in your life story, what would you want it to be remembered for?

If someone followed you for a week without hearing you speak, what would they assume matters most to you? Would they be right?

What have you become exceptionally good at that no longer feels like the person you’re growing into?

Celebrating July’s Buck Moon

Hey Peculiar!! Check out how I celebrate July’s Buck Moon

Nature Infused Altar Cloth Ritual

Creating a nature-based altar cloth during the Buck Moon is a meaningful ritual combining art and spirituality. Gather natural dyes using plants, flowers, and berries. For example, you could use turmeric for yellow, beetroot for red, spinach for green, and blueberries for blue. Garden sage also creates a beautiful yellow, almost chartreuse color.

Use natural fiber fabrics like cotton or linen. Wash, dry, and soak it in a vinegar solution to help the dye stick. Add a bit of iron to help the colors stay (I just crush up an iron tablet with my mortar and pestle). Dye the fabric with your natural pigments, and then add patterns or symbols like leaves or moon phases.

An altar cloth serves as a personal foundation for rituals or offerings. Making your own allows you to add personal energy and spiritual intentions. Arrange crystals, herbs, and other meaningful items on it during the Buck Moon to focus on growth and strength. This cloth will remind you of your intentions and can become a cherished tradition, connecting you to nature and the moon’s energy throughout the year.

Garden Green Magic

July’s Full Moon is also known as the Wyrt Moon, which refers to plants and herbs used for medicinal purposes. If you’ve got a garden of your own, use this as an opportunity to harvest some herbs for tinctures, extracts, salves, and spices, or hang them upside down to dry for a homemade smoke cleanser. Don’t forget to cool down with a run through the sprinklers!

Give back to your garden by weeding, trimming plants, and cleaning up. If you don’t have a garden of your own, maybe you can volunteer your time to a loved one by helping them with their weeds or outdoor chores. You can also give back to Mother Nature by picking up trash and garbage in your local area.
