The full moon in March 2025, also known as the Worm Moon, is considered the final Moon of Winter. The subtle signs of Spring have been creeping in, and they’re now impossible to ignore. The spiritual energy is so palpable you can feel its meaning in your bones.

The manifestations and intentions you’ve been journaling about are no longer content sitting on paper, and they begin impatiently squirming their way into reality. In 2025, March’s full moon coincides with a Total Lunar Eclipse, so emotions may be heightened. Focus on rituals embracing change, releasing the old, and welcoming what comes next.

Please note that I make every effort to ensure this information is correct and accurate through my own experiences and referencing sources throughout AND at the bottom of this article.

When is the Full Moon in March 2025?

In 2025, the Worm Moon occurs on March 14th, reaching its peak at 2:55 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The Full Moon phase connects with the season and time of year it falls. Their names come from many beliefs around the world, including Native American, Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Germanic, and more modern Neo-Pagan traditions. Each moon carries its own Moon Magic and spiritual energy. I’ve put together a guide to every full moon, including their meanings and ritual ideas for celebrating them!

What is a Worm Moon?

March’s full moon is known as the Worm Moon, but not for the reason you might think. According to NASA, only Southern Native American tribes used this name, which is associated with the appearance of earthworm manure (vermicast) as the ground thawed in Spring.

In the more northern regions of North America, glaciers wiped out native earthworms thousands of years ago, meaning this name wouldn’t have made much sense to those communities.

When glaciers covered the northern part of North America they wiped out the native earthworms. After these glaciers melted about 12,000 years ago the more northern forests grew back without earthworms.

The earthworms in these areas now are mostly invasive species introduced from Europe and Asia.

Why is it called a Worm Moon?

The Old Farmer’s Almanac offers an alternative name theory. They claim the name comes from Captain Jonathan Carver, an 18th-century author and explorer, who supposedly wrote about worm-like beetle larvae appearing this time of year.

However, I couldn’t find any actual writings from him mentioning this. Conveniently, the Old Farmer’s Almanac doesn’t list their sources either. So, take that story with a grain of salt.

In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver visited the Naudowessie (Dakota) and other Native American tribes and wrote that the name Worm Moon refers to a different sort of “worm”—beetle larvae—which begin to emerge from the thawing bark of trees and other winter hideouts at this time.

Worm Moon Spiritual Meaning

Earthworms work their magic in the dark soil beneath our feet. They break down the old and transform decay into fertile, rich soil with so much potential.

Worms dig through resistance to forge new paths. Spring can be an intense season of change. Remember, progress isn’t always loud and gaudy, it can be slow and messy. It’s also an absolute necessity of life, whether we’re ready or not.

What parts of your life need composting? Do you have any outdated beliefs, fears, or patterns you can break down and repurpose into something to fuel your growth?

If you’ve been stuck, hesitant, or doubting your next move, the full moon of March encourages you to keep moving. Keep digging, and the way forward will reveal itself as you go.

When is the Paschal Moon in 2025?

The Paschal (pronounced pass-kl) Full Moon helps to determine the date of the Christian celebration of Easter. The holiday celebration of Easter always occurs on the Sunday following the first Full Moon after the Spring Equinox.

In 2025, March’s Full Worm Moon rises BEFORE the Spring Equinox takes place on March 20th. This makes April’s Full Moon the Paschal Moon! April’s Full Moon lands on April 12th (April 13th in Jerusalem). This makes Easter land on April 20th.

Worm Moon Journal Prompts

Journaling during each full moon lets me observe short-term monthly goals and reflections. Take some time to ruminate on your life right now.

Writing is a beautiful habit, and it’s fascinating to reflect on. To see how your thoughts and opinions may have changed or stayed the same. It can also help you slow down and observe your current situation. To be fully present at this moment.

What old energy, habits, or beliefs need to be composted to make space for new growth?

Worms transform decay into nourishment. How can I turn past struggles into strengths?

What “weeds” (negative influences, draining habits, toxic relationships) need to be pulled from my life?

If I fully trusted and believed in myself and my spirituality, what bold move would I make right now?

Where was I spiritually at this time last year? How have I grown and evolved?

What signs of progress (no matter how small) have shown up in my intentions and spellwork?

Storm Water Charged by the Moon

March’s Full Moon is also known as the Storm Moon due to the more frequent thunder, lightning, and rainstorms occurring during March.

Collect storm water from a March rainstorm and charge it beneath the Worm Moon. This will create your own unique Storm Moon Water, perfect for change, renewal, and breaking through obstacles. Use this powerful water to cleanse tools, anoint candles, or strengthen your spellwork.

I find it helpful to contemplate the various uses of rainwater, depending on the type of storm. For example, a calm and serene drizzle carries an entirely different mood and energy than an intense lightning storm.

Ritual for Waking Up the Land

Throughout history, many cultures celebrated the return of the sun by waking up the land with sound and movement. Ancient people, particularly in Europe, used bells, drums, rattles, and even their own voices to awaken the earth’s spirit. They believed this brought fertile fields and bountiful harvests.

Some traditions, like wassailing in England, involved singing and making noise to wake up fruit trees. Other pagan and animist practitioners would walk the land, calling to the Fae and other spirits of nature to rise from their winter slumber.

Perform your own Worm Moon Waking Ritual by taking a bell, drum, or singing bowl through your backyard or nearby park. Try clapping your hands, too! You could also simply open a window of your home or sacred space. I usually like to sing happy songs if I’m in an appropriate space for it.

Lunar Infused Honey for Prosperity and Sweetness

Honey is a symbol of prosperity, nourishment, and healing. Honey reminds us of the sweetness of life. It’s a perfect ingredient for Worm Moon magic as the Spring season shifts into focus.

In their endless efforts to produce honey, bees represent diligence, abundance, and community. Each of these qualities is consistent with the awakening energy of Spring.

Enhance honey’s natural energy by infusing it with the light of March’s full moon. This will give you a powerful tool to drizzle into your tea, spread on biscuits, or add to a ritual bath. It will attract prosperity, sweetness, love, and renewal into your life.

You can also offer spoonfuls of it as offerings to spirits, deities, or ancestors as a token of gratitude. Alternatively, use it in spell jars, sigils, or in self-love spells to strengthen your manifestations.

Bury and Bloom Manifestation Ritual Spell

This spell combines the transformative power of the elements fire and earth and symbolizes the earthworm turning decay into nourishment. Put your manifestation into motion with flame and then return it to the earth so your dreams can take root and bloom!

Gather Your Supplies

  • Any candle color and type of your choice (I recommend a purple chime candle for manifestation)
  • A fire-safe dish or cauldron
  • A small piece of paper and pen
  • A lighter or matches
  • A small shovel for digging
  • (Optional) Lunar Infused Honey for Prosperity & Sweetness
  • (Optional) Seeds, flowers, or a small plant

Step-by-Step Instructions

Prepare Your Candle

Choose any candle of your choice. If you need help, watch my video on Candle Magic: Beginner Basics.

Set Your Intention

Write your manifestation or dream on a small piece of paper. Be specific and write it in the present tense, as if it has already happened.

Anoint with Intention

Amplify your intentions by anointing your candle with Lunar Infused Honey with extra sweetness, prosperity, and attraction. If you need help, watch my video on How to Cleanse and Anoint your Candles for Spellwork.

Ignite the Flame

Light your candle and place it in a fire-safe dish. Hold your written manifestation close to your heart. Visualize it clearly and hold it in your mind while feeling the emotions of having achieved it.

Release into Fire

When you’re ready, carefully burn the paper in the flame, releasing its energy. Place the burning paper into a fire-safe dish and watch it turn to ash.

Close with Gratitude

Take a moment to thank the elements, the earth, and yourself for the energy included in this ritual.

Return to the Earth

Once the paper and candle have completely burned, take the remnants outside and bury them in the earth. The intentions will be absorbed and nurtured. Bonus points if you plant wildflowers or herbs above it; as they bloom, so will your manifestation.

Is There a Black Moon in March 2025?

No, March doesn’t have a seasonal Black Moon in 2025. However, there will be a seasonal Black Moon on August 23, 2025.

A Black Moon is a modern phrase that is very similar to the definition of a Blue Moon. However, it involves two NEW MOONS within a specified time period rather than two FULL MOONS.

A Black Moon brings success and good luck. While a Black Moon is not an astronomical phrase, it’s honored and celebrated by Pagans, witches, and other spiritual practitioners.

I hope you enjoy the Full Moon of March 2025! Lots of love to you, and remember, as always…
