As the New Year dawns, the world remains cocooned in darkness, with short, fleeting days. Yet, we’re filled with hope, finding warmth and comfort as we nestle in our homes during these cozy Winter days.

Every full moon has its own name based on the month or season in which it appears. Creating a name for each full Moon allows people to reflect on each season and how it affects them AND the natural world. There can be some variation on the Full Moon names due to their origins.

Wolf Moon Spiritual Meaning

The Full Moon of January is simply a symbol reminding us of the power we hold inside ourselves. Like that gut feeling you sometimes get. Remember to trust yourself and your intuition because you hold raw knowledge inside of you infused by Nature. The Wolf Moon’s spiritual meaning represents intuition, untamed wisdom, and wild ancient lore.

When we hear wolves howl from the dark depths of January’s moon, it’s like a story from the past, echoing wisdom through time. It’s important to remember that wolves howl for various reasons, including communication with their pack or warnings to rival packs.

They tend to become even more vocal during mating season, which typically occurs between January and March. This would perfectly align with the beginning of the year and is believed to be why January’s moon is called the Wolf Moon.

Howl at the Moon Ritual

In a place where you feel comfortable, stand with your feet apart and your hands on your hips in your best superhero pose (Grey’s Anatomy fans will know what I’m talking about). Studies (like this one from Harvard) have shown that if you maintain this position for five minutes, you will perform better at a difficult task. It also helps build confidence.

However, why stop there? Think of a negative feeling or stressful situation that’s been a burden on you. Now, while maintaining your superhero pose, give a few big howls. Imagine that worry and negativity leaving your body. In its place is nothing but tranquil energy and peace.

This can be a wonderful way to release tension, anxiety, or heavy emotions, or at a minimum, it’s a big mood booster.

penumbra, (from Latin paene, “almost”; umbra, “shadow”), in astronomy, the outer part of a conical shadow, cast by a celestial body, where the light from the Sun [or other light source like the moon] is partially blocked—as compared to the umbra (q.v.), the shadow’s darkest, central part, where the light is totally excluded.

Is There a Black Moon in May 2024?

No, May doesn’t have a seasonal Black Moon in 2024.

However, a calendrical Black Moon will be on November 30th, 2024.

A Black Moon is a modern phrase that is very similar to the definition of a Blue Moon. However, it involves two NEW MOONS inside a specified time period rather than two FULL MOONS. Since two New Moons take place in the month of November, it makes this a calendrical Black Moon.

A Black Moon brings success and good luck. While it’s not an astronomical phrase, it’s honored and celebrated by Pagans, witches, and other spiritual practitioners.

I hope you enjoy January’s Wolf Moon! Lots of love to you, and remember, as always…
